At what point does the pointless pursuit of pain and pleasure reach breaking point?

I think I found it somewhere between the 60-80km mark at @lavaredoultratrail. Teetering between the highs atop a stunning summit and the lows looking up at the next. Here you hurt deeply, and feel the most. The world around you stands still. All you can think of is putting one foot in front of another.

I’ve learnt to appreciate that the suffering never gets easier. The body adapts, but training just allows it to endure at a higher threshold. And so you keep pushing the limits each time to feel the same intoxicating joys of effort, as you take in the raw beauty of it all. A fine line to balance, going just past the edge, but never tipping over. It makes you wonder, how much further can you go?

I love running. I love this supportive community and how transformative the sport can be. Over the years, marathon trainings have become a grounding constant, across continents and careers, that these races now serve as distance markers for our ongoing ultra journey of life. Zurich, when we first moved to Europe. Frankfurt, when other priorities took over. Boston, when I learnt to blur the lines. Christchurch, when running kept us sane through Covid.

London’s training block will always be associated with a fresh start in our Swiss chapter, a celebration of all the mundane and magnificent steps leading up to the finish line.

Next stop: Berlin!

Q1 2024: Ventured above the tree line, while pushing my pace on the ground. Searched north for a new home in the city, only to settle back south in the mountains.

After going back and forth, I’ve come to terms that I can live in two worlds, and have more than one happy place.

Today is my last day with @altrarunning_europe

Looking back at the start line almost 2 years ago, I remember feeling like I had won a bib for UTMB and Berlin Marathon combined! What an exhilarating journey it turned out to be 🏁🏃🏻‍♀️📈📉

Running isn’t just an individual sport. It’s a team effort, fueled by a committed community to create magic the whole way through 🔥✨

So, thank you to everyone who was part of my journey 🙏 Whether it’s cheering on through tough stretches or supporting at timely aid stations, you’ve made a difference. Some of you ran alongside me the whole way, pushing the pace when needed while always being there to troubleshoot issues and offer guidance on the route’s twists and turns. Sometimes, even giving tips on the most appropriate local phrases (or gestures) to use at critical moments! 💪😎 Those would be my best memories.

This wasn’t an easy race, but it’s been my most beautiful and rewarding one yet. I’ve enjoyed giving my best in every step, so it’s hard to step away now considering how far we’ve come, with the best views still ahead. Though our paths diverge, I’ll be cheering for Altra from the sidelines.

It’s a small world 🌍 Who knows when our paths may cross again out there? Until then, let’s stay connected.

Mountains. Marathons. Literally. Figuratively. They’ve taught me that growth and progress can be so damn uncomfortable, yet incredibly satisfying when you run through it.

Some moments, especially during the beginning, were a complete blur (as were the lines between work and life). So big thanks to everyone who has been kind and welcoming along the way 🌍💞
